Running a scratch card fundraiser is an easy, popular and potentially profitable fundraising idea.

Well it may not be one of the most novel fundraising ideas but sometimes there is something to be said for the tried and tested.

The advantages of a scratch card fundraiser are:

• The idea is easy to understand, both to your fundraising volunteers and to members of the public
• It can be “worked” on any occasion ie. work, home or social events
• Needs no special equipment other than the scratch cards
• Can (should?) involve the whole fundraising team and any others who want to get involved
• Is not dependent on the weather
• Is a low cost way for people to support you
• Will bring in good returns – a scratch card fundraiser can be surprisingly profitable

One of the more interesting fund raising activities is what is known as scratch off cards. Lots of times people like to help organizations, but don’t really want to deal with products or activities, they just want to donate a little money instead.

Scratch off cards are a neat way for youth groups to get funds in a fun way. The proposed donor is asked to scratch off 2 or more areas on a specially made card that will reveal how much they are asked to give. Typically it’s between .50 and $3, and that’s not very much. When the person has had all the spots on their cards scratched off they will have usually at least $100 profit.

While many people prefer the more common type of fund raising activies, this might be a good one for those that are having a hard time finding ideas. A lot of times donors come away having only given $5 or $6 instead of $20 for popcorn or a holiday wreath, so they are happy about that.

Obviously this type of fundraiser works best for youth groups. I’ve read mixed reviews on this, it’s a little confusing for some of the donators. Product sales are probably a less confusing activity for most groups.

Scratch card fundraising is one of the easiest fundraisers for youth sports teams and school groups. The basic premise of a scratch card fundraiser is simple. Instead of selling a product, you ask supporters to scratch off a dot on a scratch card and then donate the amount revealed. In return, they receive a sheet of valuable coupons for supporting your fundraising effort.
